Leicester to sign Portuguese international defender

Leicester City have agreed to sign Portuguese international Ricardo Pereira from FC Porto.

The 24-year-old is in England to finalise terms on a five-year contract and undertake a medical with the 2015-16 Premier League champions.

Pereira has three caps for the senior Portuguese national team and has been named as part of Fernando Santos’ 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup.

The right-back made 27 appearances in FC Porto’s Portuguese Primeira Liga title-winning campaign this past season, scoring two goals and adding four assists.

Ricardo Pereira has been with FC Porto since 2013 when he signed from Vitoria Guimaraes, and played with current Leicester City manager Claude Puel for two seasons with French Ligue 1 side Nice between 2015-17.

The Leicester-bound defender likes to run at defenders with the ball and is a creative full-back in the final third. Pereira also offers good defensive contribution and tackling.

31-year-old Danny Simpson started 27 of Leicester City’s 38 Premier League games this past season.
