Man City closing in on £75m Mahrez deal

Manchester City could finally land Riyad Mahrez in a £75 million deal from Leicester City, according to the Daily Mail.

The 2017-18 Premier League champions have been chasing the Algerian winger for over a year, which included a bid on deadline day of the winter transfer window this year.

If the report is accurate then Pep Guardiola’s side could conclude a deal for the Algerian international by the end of the week as the City boss looks to get his transfer dealings under way before the start of the World Cup.

Riyad Mahrez is a left-footed player who plays down the right wing so he could either be a direct replacement to Raheem Sterling in the first team or to split time with the England international.

Sterling is coming off his most productive season as a senior, scoring 18 goals and recording 11 assists in his 33 Premier League appearances (29 starts).  However, the 23-year-old missed numerous tap ins and one-on-one situations during the season so Guardiola may feel Mahrez is an upgrade here.

The 2015-16 Premier League winner is a different option to what City currently have down the flank in the pace of Sterling and Leroy Sane, whilst Mahrez offers more flair and creativity than Bernardo Silva.
