West Ham United have completed the signing of Paraguay defender Fabián Balbuena from Corinthians for an undisclosed fee, the club have confirmed.
The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the London Stadium.
Balbuena becomes the second centre-back signed by new manager Manual Pellegrini this summer following the club record signing of Issa Diop in a £22 million deal from Toulouse last month.
Despite his age, he does only have seven caps for the Paraguay national team after spending the past two seasons in the Brazilian Série A.
Fabián Balbuena was the captain of the Corinthians side where he won the 2017 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and both the 2017 and 2018 Campeonato Paulista.
The defender becomes Pellegrini’s sixth signing of the summer, joining The Brazilian is the Hammers’ seven signing of the summer under new manager Manual Pellegrini, following the arrivals of Issa Diop (Toulouse), Łukasz Fabiański (Swansea City), Ryan Fredericks (Fulham), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal) and Andriy Yarmolenko (Borussia Dortmund) as new recruits.
