Crystal Palace have completed one of the biggest surprise signings of the summer by landing German international Max Meyer on a free transfer from Schalke 04, the club have announced.
The 22-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Selhurst Park.
Meyer is one of a number of talented youngsters to come through the Schalke youth system in recent years though hasn’t quiet lived up to his potential so far.
In all, he made 192 appearances for the Gelsenkirchen-based club, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists. However, he was not involved in a single goal in his 24 Bundesliga appearances (21 starts) last season, though did help the Royal Blues to a runners-up finish.
The four-time German international has played in three different Champions League campaigns for his first club and brings great technical ability to Southeast London.
Max Meyer is expected to be a direct replacement for the outgoing Yohan Cabaye in the middle of Crystal Palace’s midfield. He is their third signing so far this summer having already brought in Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita and defensive midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate from West Ham.
