Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck sustained a “significant” right ankle injury during Thursday evening’s Europa League draw against Sporting Club of Portugal, the club have announced.
The England international was replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after only half hour in the 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Welbeck appeared to injure his right ankle when landing badly after jumping for a header.
The club confirmed today that he will assessed over the next 72 hours:
“A further update will be issued over the next 72 hours.”
Danny Welbeck required lengthy treatment that included an oxygen mask in the first half. He has scored five goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this season.
The goalless draw was sufficient for Arsenal to progress into the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League in their first season under Unai Emery. The Spanish manager won the tournament in three consecutive seasons with Sevilla between 2014-16.
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
